JOE I. Sablan ruled the Saipan Golf Association’s May Ace of the Month Tournament with a net score of 79 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort west course on June 2.
It was not an easy feat for Sablan, but determination was what led him to the top.
On the front nine, Sablan struggled as he ended with a gross of 52. But he recovered on the back nine with a gross of 47 for a total gross score of 99. Sporting a handicap of 20, Sablan’s net score of 79 was enough to secure the May Ace title.
But Sablan was not the overall first place winner. It was Alex Tudela who topped the tournament with a gross of 43 on the front and 45 on the back nine for a total gross of 88. With a handicap of 13, his net score was 75. Tudela, however, has already won an Ace tournament.
In third place was Jung Eun Teack, who shot a gross of 52 on the front and 44 on the back nine for a total gross of 96, which was improved by his handicap of 16 to give him a net score of 80.
In the optional play, the Closest to the Pin winners were Freddie Cataluna for hole #3 and Alex Tudela for hole #7. The Longest Drive was made by Rene Batallones for hole #5 and Alex Tudela for hole #18.
Joe I. Sablan now joins the rest of 2024 Ace of the Month winners: Larry Deleon Guerrero (January), Alex Tudela (February), Nick Sablan (March) and Das Krishnan (April).
The 2024 June Ace of the Month Tournament was set for June 23, 2024, Sunday, at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort East Course. The results will be announced in a future edition of Variety.
