CITING his superior academic achievement and leadership potential, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy has accepted Anthony Jacob Camacho Deleon Guerrero.

A graduate of Marianas High School, he has just completed his first year in college at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and plans to obtain a civil engineering degree at the USCG Academy in New London, Connecticut.

He will be sworn in as a member of the Class of 2028 on July 1, 2024.

Admission to the Coast Guard Academy is highly competitive and fewer than 400 appointments are offered annually from a pool of over 2,000 applicants, the academy stated.  Cadets receive a full tuition scholarship and a monthly stipend for a five-year service commitment to the Coast Guard upon graduation.  All graduates receive a bachelor of science degree and are guaranteed a position of leadership as a commissioned officer in the United States Coast Guard.

In a statement to Variety, Deleon Guerrero said, “Accepting the full appointment to the United States Coast Guard Academy is a crucial step in my dedication to protecting our nation’s waters.”

He said coming from the CNMI, “where the ocean is central to our lives, I’ve developed a deep respect for maritime environments.”

“Even as I move away from home, these values will guide my commitment to safeguarding our oceans, preserving their natural beauty, and ensuring their sustainability for future generations.  With God at my forefront, I feel confident in my mission to protect and serve,” he added.
