Tinian delegation holds public hearing on internet gaming bill

THE Tinian and Aguiguan Legislative Delegation on Tuesday conducted a public hearing on Senate Local Bill 23-5, which proposes to allow internet gaming on Tinian.

The public hearing held at the Tinian Public Library was not livestreamed due to some technical issues, but it was recorded on video and will be available for viewing at a later date.

The delegation invited Tinian Mayor Edwin P. Aldan, Tinian Municipal Council members, the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission members, Attorney General Edward Manibusan and the general public to the hearing.

Authored by Sen. Jude U. Hofschneider, S.L.B. 23-5 would authorize TCGCC to grant a 20-year internet gaming license to gaming investors on Tinian. The local bill does not limit the number of internet gaming licenses that can be granted by TCGCC.

S.L.B. 23-5 states that in the interest of promoting the Tinian gaming industry, it is necessary to allow internet gaming “in order to be globally competitive” and compliant with U.S. laws and regulations.

The bill would require an age verification software “reasonably designed to block access to minors.”

Right now, Tinian has the only operating casino in the CNMI, Tinian Diamond Casino, which was constructed by Big Investment Group under the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program.
