Bridge Capital’s Steve Kim pulls up for the three-point shot during a men’s open division game of Michelob Ultra Cup 2024 at the Ada gym on Saturday.
BRIDGE Capital outplayed 670 Akkari-Eet 1, 77-59, in the men’s open division of the Michelob Ultra Cup 2024, which kicked off at the Ada gym on Saturday.
In the opening quarter, Bridge Capital used their size advantage with Matt Duenas and Steve King scoring the first eight points of the game, but Edison Viana converted seven points to keep Akkari-Eet within reach.
However, Akkari-Eet could not establish dominance within the paint, which led to several forced shots and more misses than makes. Bridge Capital capitalized off the missed shots by turning them to gold on the other end with Tony Kim delivering back-to-back reverse finishes to lead 20-13 at the end of the first 10 minutes of play.
Akkari-Eet bounced back during the second period as the rest of its players started to find their groove. Aiden Suba stood at the frontline with seven points while Charlz Sanchez and Freddy Pelisamen contributed a couple of shots to cut down the lead, 31-32.
Akkari-Eet’s time in the spotlight was short-lived, however, as Bridge Capital reestablished control in the second half of the game.
Bridge Capital’s defense proved too much for Akkari-Eet as they struggled to secure the possession, which led to several errors. With each turnover, Bridge Capital completed fastbreak finishes led by Matthew Richardson and Gregory Deleon Guerrero Jr. to seize a double-digit lead, 54-44.
Bridge Capital continued to fire at will with King orchestrating another onslaught and scoring eight points while Richarson contributed seven to seal the deal, 77-59.
Winners, too
Joining the winner’s circle were Team Marianas, which devastated Shirley’s, 182-23, and the Saints, who slipped past the Pegs, 86-83.
