THE Department of Public Health is preparing for an estimated $10 million worth of building expansion that will include modifying the existing hemodialysis section to accommodate more dialysis stations and patients.
Acting Health Secretary James U. Hofschneider said there will be 25 new dialysis stations, in addition to the existing 13, once the expansion project is completed. Public Health has over 90 hemodialysis patients.
“We are dialyzing patients in four shifts. The ideal is two shifts—one in the morning and one in the afternoon. But with the limited machines we have right now, we do it until 1 o’clock in the morning. That’s not ideal for our patients,” said Hofschneider.
During a Cabinet meeting last week, Public Works Secretary Juan Reyes assured that any protest in the procurement of the Public Health expansion project will be dealt with immediately to avoid further delaying the project.
