EDUCATION officials from 11 Pacific island nations and territories wrapped up their four-day meeting on Friday with a recommendation seeking $1.3 million grant from the federal government for vocational education in fiscal year 2003.
Dr. Robert Allen, director of the Honolulu-based Pacific Work Force Development Program, told Variety yesterday that $1.3 million “is a conservative amount,” and they were expecting the U.S. Congress to approve $1.5 million.
“We are also expecting that the amount will increase every fiscal year,” Allen said.
Their grant application will be channeled through the federal government’s Pacific Vocational Improvement Program as established by the Federal Vocational Education Act.
The CNMI hosted the annual meeting for the first time. It used to be held in Hawaii.
