Remengesau welcomes new India envoy

KOROR (Palau Horizon) — President Tommy Remengesau has accepted the credentials of India’s new ambassador to Palau, Navrekha Sharma.

The president, in his speech lauded, the Indian government for appointing women to high offices.

He said the appointment of Sharma reaffirms the country’s matriarchal traditions.

The president at the same time said India has always provided Palau with training and technical assistance.

He said the two nations have always offered each other mutual support.

Remengesau said Palau is willing to lend its voice to India on matters of mutual concern, especially Palau’s bid to become a member of the Group of 77.

Palau is seeking membership in the group to improve the country’s ability to be heard and cooperate with other developing nations.

“We look forward to receiving India’s support as a respected leader in the community of developing nations, and as a government and society from which Palau can learn a great deal, and most importantly as a trusted friend and ally,” Remengesau said.

Palau will look at India as an example of how to steer the course toward growth and development, Remengesau said.

“We will always welcome the opportunity to share our unique perspective and insights as our two nations proceed together under the new world order,” he added.
