Taiwan to send another fleet to Palau

KOROR (Palau Horizon) — Naval ships from Taiwan will be in Palau for a goodwill visit on April 25 to 27.

The fleet has 850 officers and navy cadets who will perform community services while in Palau. There will be a welcoming ceremony for the fleet at the Malakal port and one of the frigates will be opened for public viewing for two days while two of the ships will stay off-shore.

The navy cadets are also scheduled to conduct a marching band and perform taekwando exhibition at Asahi Baseball Field.

The cadets will also be performing community services and play a friendship basketball game with Palau Community College’s basketball team.

This is the second time that Taiwanese naval ships will visit Palau. Last year, Taiwan sent three naval ships to Palau. The port call is expected to strengthen further the relationship between the two countries.

Palau is one of the few countries in the world that have diplomatic ties with Taiwan, which calls itself the “Republic of China.”
