GOVERNOR Juan N. Babauta on Friday signed into law an appropriation measure that would fund three vital programs in the commonwealth.
Babauta signed Local Bill 13-2 in the presence of Reps. Andrew S. Salas, R-Saipan; Arnold I. Palacios, R-Saipan; and Ramon A. Tebuteb, R-Saipan. It is now Public Local Law 13-6.
The new law earmarks $30,000 for the renovation and construction of a recreational clinic in Saipan’s Precinct 3.
It will also provide $50,000 for the upcoming Micronesian Games, and $240,000 for water line distribution in Saipan Precinct 2.
Salas proposed the $240,000 water line distribution funding, while the $50,000 for Micronesian games was co-authored by Tebuteb.Salas said he was “humbled” by the governor’s support.
The new law will finally establish a direct water link to residents of Chalan Kanoa and Susupe.
The CNMI will send a 180-man delegation, composed of players and coaches, to the two-week Micronesia Games in July. The games will be held in Pohnpei.
Robert Guerrero, president of the CNMI Amateur Sports Association, and Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Juan L. Babauta also thanked the governor for supporting the CNMI’s athletes.
