SHERLYN Jones topped the Refaluwasch Golf Association’s February Ace of the Month tournament at the Kingfisher Golf Links on Feb. 24.

In the qualifier round on Feb. 10, Jones ran into some tough situations but still made the most out of it, sinking a birdie on the very first hole and completing the front nine with a gross score of 44.

The back nine seemed to be a bit more forgiving. She shot another birdie on hole #16 to end with a gross score of 41 for a gross total of 85. With a handicap of 12, Jones stood in third place with a net score of 73.

In the ace round on Feb. 24, Jones climbed her way to the top. She greatly improved her game with a steady swing and six pars to close the front nine with a gross of 40. She slightly struggled on the back nine but still maintained efficiency to notch a gross of 44 for a total score of 84. Aided by her handicap of 12, she led the day with a net score of 72 and a two-day net score of 145.

However, Carl Hocog also had the same net total of 145.

A scorecard playoff broke the tie with Jones gaining the upper hand and the February Ace of the Month title. Hocog settled for second place. Coming in third was Ben Jones Jr. who faced Manny Mangarero in another tiebreaker as they shared a net total of 147.

Mangarero, who led on day one with a net score of 66, took home $130 while Hocog finished second with a net score of 72, which was worth $110.  Jones, who finished third with a net score of 73, received $90, while Ben Jones Jr. in fourth sharing a net of 73 pocketed $70.

Day 2 was led by Sherlyn Jones with a net of 72, for which she won $110. Marco Peter, with a net score of 73, was second and the recipient of $90. Hocog was third with a net of 73, which was worth $70, while Ben Jones Jr came in fourth with a net of 74 and took home $50.

In the optional play, the day 1 winners were Sherlyn Jones for hole #6; Franco Santos, holes #8 and #15; and Louie Tilipao, hole #12. Day 2 was led by Santos, holes #6 and hole #8; Peter, hole #12; and Mangarero, hole #15.
