This dog was found near the Kagman Community Center and Laolao Bay Golf and Resort
Kyoko Elliot said she found this dog at her front door after firework celebrations began in Kagman.
IT wasn’t a happy New Year’s celebration for at least two pet owners over the weekend as their dogs went missing in separate incidents in San Vicente and Kagman.
Leith Poole said his dog Priya has been missing since the New Year’s Eve celebrations. He noticed her missing at 2 a.m. He suspects the fireworks might have had something to do with his dog running away.
Variety learned about Poole’s predicament after seeing a Facebook post on the Saipan Cares for Animal’s group page.
Priya is a boonie dog with a mixed brown, black and white coat. She has distinct white splotches of fur on her left chest and belly. Poole said Priya stands about 16-18 inches at the shoulder, and weighs around 35 pounds.
He describes Priya as being friendly, but “a little shy, not aggressive.”
Poole is asking people in the vicinity of San Vicente Elementary School to keep an eye out for Priya, who went missing in that area. However, by now she could be significantly farther away.
“We got her at Coral Ocean Point about five years ago,” Poole said. “We found her super neglected with mange and no hair, but she really came back to life.”
Another missing dog
In a separate incident Kayoko Elliot said she found a “super friendly” dog in the area between the Kagman Community Center and Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
“Fireworks had started in [the] neighborhood tonight and one hour later this cute little one was waiting for us to open the front door,” Elliot said, adding that she discovered the dog at around 7 p.m.
The dog is a “lowrider,” standing around six inches at the shoulder. It has mostly black fur with spots of brown on its face, snout, legs and paws. It’s wearing a blue collar.
Its owner can call (670) 285-5333 for more information.
According to Saipan Humane Society Clinic Manager Ruby Ma, SHS shares posts of missing pets on their social media accounts.
Ma said pet owners who lost their animals over the weekend should also call the Dog Control Program at (670) 234-3647.
The mayor’s animal shelter is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Ma said.
