HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The Department of Corrections reported an inmate escaped on Christmas Eve.
The inmate, Erson Reselap, 25, allegedly escaped custody on Sunday afternoon, DOC reported.
About 4 p.m. Sunday, Reselap was being transported by ambulance to Guam Memorial Hospital for an undisclosed medical condition, DOC reported in a press release.
“He was escorted by a Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center staff while three DOC Special Operations officers followed the ambulance in an official vehicle,” DOC said in the release.
“At about 7:42 p.m., a GBHWC staff (member) reported he lost custody of inmate Reselap,” DOC said in the release.
Behavioral Health subsequently reported the incident to the Guam Police Department. Reselap was captured at 11:20 p.m. in the Tamuning area.
Reselap was then booked and confined at DOC. DOC will be conducting an internal investigation into the escape, the department said in the release.
Record
Reselap has been confined at DOC since August after being charged with possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card as a third-degree felony.
According to court documents, Reselap’s charges stemmed from an incident on July 12 at a Tamuning residence, when police learned Reselap was involved in an argument and was seen holding a gray handgun.
Witnesses reported Reselap fired the gun outside the Tamuning residence. Reselap, upon being arrested, allegedly said he accidentally shot off a round, documents state.
Reselap was discovered not to have a valid firearms identification card. He also was on parole for a 2021 felony case and probation for a 2019 felony case, where he was ordered not to possess a firearm.
Prison records show Reselap’s three-year parole for the 2021 case was revoked on Nov. 1. Before being charged with escape, Reselap was set to be released from confinement on Feb. 13, 2026.
The Guam Department of Corrections is seen Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023, in Mangilao.
