HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The Bureau of Statistics and Plans displayed the second coastal sign at Talo’fo’fo’ Bay for tourists and local residents to be informed of marine preserves, safety tips and local law.
Signs will be posted across Guam, including at Malesso’ Pier, Hågat Marina, Tepungan Beach Park, Matapang Beach Park and Gun Beach. The first sign was displayed in 2021 at Ypao Beach. The remaining signs will be displayed starting in January 2024.
“The coastal signs aim to raise awareness about Guam’s marine preserves and protect against illegal poaching; ensure recreational users and beachgoers are aware of important water safety and dangerous marine life precautions; and equip residents and visitors alike with guidance on reef-safe behavior to protect Guam’s coral reef,” the Bureau of Statistics and Plans said in a press release.
Each sign consists of QR codes which provide access to translated information in various languages such as Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Chuukese, Marshallese and Tagalog.
The signs were made possible from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Authority, according to the release.
