HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Guam prosecutors are still waiting for DNA evidence of Adam Messier to be analyzed by the FBI.
On Wednesday three defendants, Curtis Blas, Donavan Elliot Alianza Carriaga and Brandon Flaherty, appeared at a hearing in the Superior Court of Guam on a case where they are charged in connection to the death of Messier in 2017.
According to the hearing minutes, the Office of the Attorney General said it had sent DNA evidence to the FBI to be analyzed and continues to await results.
Additionally, defense attorneys are trying to negotiate with the prosecution.
According to Post files, during a March hearing for Blas, Carriaga and Flaherty, their defense attorneys said they had received plea offers from the AG’s office and, in response, sent counteroffers. However, the attorneys had not received responses from the assigned prosecutor.
Blas, Carriaga and Flaherty will return to court for a pretrial conference on Feb. 5 with jury selection and trial scheduled for March 20.
Charges
Blas, Carriaga and Flaherty were charged with murder in connection to the disappearance in 2017 of Messier, whose remains were found at a ranch in Yigo in October 2021, which is when the three men were charged.
According to court documents, the three men attacked Messier. Flaherty was accused of holding Messier down as Carriaga and Blas beat and strangled him.
The men told officers they disposed of the body in a large trash bag, documents state.
Since being charged, Flaherty and Carriaga were released from prison while Blas remains confined at the Department of Corrections.
