Senate panel to hold hearing for NMHC board nominee

THE Senate Standing Committee on Executive Appointment and Government Investigations will be holding a public hearing today, Tuesday, for the governor’s nomination to the Northern Marianas Housing Corporation board of directors.

Merced M. Tomokane has been nominated by Governor Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Governor Arnold I. Palacios to serve the Commonwealth in this capacity.

Tomokane has over three decades of experience in banking operation and management, inclusive of commercial, real estate mortgage, and consumer lending.

She also has over a decade experience in government finance environment, including budgeting, accounting, investment, and treasury.

Tomokane began working at the Bank of America-Saipan branch in 1973 before working at Bank of Guam-Saipan branch in 1980.

She also worked at the Commonwealth Bank in 1983.

The following year, she worked as an executive and administrative assistant at the CNMI Department of Finance before becoming the CNMI treasurer.

In 1994, she returned to the Bank of Guam, serving as assistant vice president and branch operation manager, and was promoted to president and branch manager the following year.

She became vice president and CNMI regional manager in 2003.

The public is welcome to attend the public hearing today at 9:30 am in the Senate Chamber to observe and/or to provide testimony.
