Administration hires new lobbyist

This amount will cover work for a period of six months.

The CNMI was previously represented by the law firm of Oldaker, Biden & Belair, LLP, at a cost of $15,000 per month. The Oldaker contract expired and the contract was not renewed.

The new firm is expected to help the CNMI government secure at least $15 million in congressional appropriations to help a devastated local economy cope with further economic losses once all garment factories shut down and other businesses close down from the impact of federal minimum wage hikes.

The governor expects the Fleishman-Hillard firm to work with the federal government, with both the Bush administration and the Congress, to build a bridge to a sustainable future.

With the firm’s assistance and recommendations, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial has written to U.S. lawmakers, asking for their help to find funding to cushion the blows facing the citizens of the CNMI.
