Senior division’s final game at the Francisco Palacios Ballfield yesterday.
Manager Derron G. Flores who just had his 15th year in coaching career recalled they won last year’s the championship against Falcon, 9-6 with Juan Iguel as the winning pitcher.
Getting through a number of losses in this year’s regular season, Flores said “we never gave up, managed to keep our composure and stayed strong.”
This year’s winning pitcher was Chris Myers who gave out seven strikes out for his first complete game, as he replaced Dave Camacho who struck out four in the first 4 innings.
Flores said they are the Jets’ “one-and-two punch” in the championship game.
With Fielders leading by one run, 8-7, second base Toby Fleming and third base Eli Aughenbaurgh both hit a single-run homer during the decisive run of the final inning.
Fleming tied the score as he managed to reach the home base when Aughenbaurgh had a base hit and Fielder’s short stopper Tom Agulto threw an error to second baser Ben Flores.
Jimmy Brel gave way for the winning run as he had a sacrifice fly allowing Aughenbaurgh to reach the home base safe.
Juan Iguel and John Pangelinan scored runs after going on base-on-ball in the first inning.
Ryan Lisua scored a run in the third inning and had single through walk in the fourth.
Iguel scored another run, Josh Jones and David Camacho added runs in the fourth inning.
Flores, coach Vinnie Sablan, assistant coach Juan Tenorio and team mom Candice Myers want to thank all the Jets sponsors, Juan Santiago, Pacific Amusement’s Jim Gephart and the Megabyte Saipan.
Flores gives special thanks to his wife, Kate C. Borja for her continuing support and allowing him to coach in baseball for 15 years. He congratulates her for graduating with Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education at the Northern Marianas College.
