West dominates conference title games

The top 2 teams of each division – open and masters – of the ECSL and the WCSL waged war Sunday, June 15, at Ngarchelong Baseball Field.Representing the ECSL were: both teams from Ngaraard, N-5 Reds and Redmen (open and masters); Ngiwal ChelidWith (open); and Ngarchelong Blue Sharks.  Representing the WCSL were both teams from Ngardmau (open and masters), Ngaremlengui (open) and Ngatpang (masters). The schedule was such that the number one team of each division of WCSL would play against the second ranked team ECSL and vice versa.  The victorious teams would then play for the conference titles. The first game of the conference squared the N-5 Reds, the number one ranked team of the ECSL (open division), against Ngaremlengui, the second best team of the WCSL (open).  Ngaremlengui tortured N-5 Reds with hits and the game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning – a ten-run rule – with a score of 19 to 1.The second game (masters), Ngatpang, ranked number one in the WCSL outscored the Ngarchelong Blue Sharks in what appeared to be a comical challenge.  In the top of the first inning, Ngatpang scored 20 of its 26 runs.  The lead off batter for Ngatpang, Calvin T. “Snow” Emesiochl, stepped to the plate three times in the top of the first inning; and scored each time at bat.According to the Blue Sharks team captain, Lorenzo Ngiramolau, most of his team members – the first 10 – were out trochus harvesting and he had to make do with real substitute players (individuals indiscriminately pulled from the crowd); and the result is obvious.Ngatpang scored on hits and countless errors that the Blue Sharks committed.  In the final inning of the game, Blue Sharks attempted a desperate comeback but fell short.  The final score was 26 to 9.In the third game, the Redmen faced Ngardmau in a seesaw battle.  Both teams played well but the Redmen proved to be the better team as it outscored Ngardmau 10 to 5.The fourth game (open), Ngardmau outmatched Ngiwal’s ChelidWith both in batting and defense.  Ngardmau held Ngiwal to a score of zero; and in the process scored 11 unanswered runs.  The game was called in 5 innings – a ten run ruling. At the end of the day, the WCSL open division teams, Ngaremlengui and Ngardmau played for the Open Division Conference Title Trophy; and the Redmen and Ngatpang played for the Masters Division Conference Title.Ngardmau and the Redmen were victorious in their games.
