Lizama announces candidacy

His campaign slogan is “Lizama for All.”

Lizama, who retired on May 21, said he has thought about running since the day the Northern Marianas became a commonwealth.

A congressional delegate, he added, will make a huge for the people of the commonwealth.

“This election in November is very important and critical because this is the first time that the CNMI will have a delegate in the U.S. Congress, and the CNMI needs a strong voice to the U.S. Congress for the health and survival of these islands,” Lizama said.

His highest priority is to restore the CNMI’s international image and its once harmonious relationship with the U.S. Congress.

Reaching out is his way of connecting with CNMI voters.

“I believe that for a candidate to succeed, the most effective way to go about it is to reach out and make yourself available to the community and the people,” Lizama said.

He will soon announce his plans to address the most pressing problems of the commonwealth.

He said his platform will include practical, realistic and achievable short-term objectives as well as long-term goals.

Lizama brings with him 27 years experience in the judiciary — 10 years as a judge and 17 years as a lawyer.

Although not a professional politician, Lizama said the skills he has gained over the years can be attributed to his experiences serving under various capacities that include private legal practice, government service, and active participation in numerous international conventions.

Lizama will meet supporters and members of community for dinner and cocktails at the Saipan World Resort from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday.
