Saipan Major League All Stars readies for Asia-Pacific meet

The Saipan All Stars which will represent NMI in the Asia Pacific meet has started its first practice at the Miguel “Tan-Ge” Basa Pangelinan yesterday after taking some rest following the victory against Tinian and Rota All Stars.

Team manager, Randell Aguon said that although the boys have shown excellent performance in district tournament, they still need to improve their batting and pitching.

“You can tell by the game they played in district tournament that they can win but I think they need to practice more in batting and pitching.

The team has five more practices more before they will prepare to leave next month, Aguon said and they will focus on batting precision and sharp pitching.

He added that the boys also need to train on their speed, because what he wants to emphasize more in the training is getting to base as consistent as possible.

“It is very important to get to the base, so speed is an important factor,” Aguon said.

Another reason for NMI team to practice more is the coming up of new teams in the Asia Pacific tournament.

Aguon said there will be two additional teams in the tournament—Australia and Singapore.

He said NMI has already defeated Guam, Philippines and Indonesia so they have an idea how these teams play and have an amount of confidence. But with the Australia and Singapore, Aguon said the NMI team members really have to prepare themselves against them.
