Unlike the local Republican Party which already has representatives to the national GOP, the local Democratic Party does not have official representation with its national counterpart, said Crisostimo, who is running for the CNMI’s congressional delegate seat.
Democrats are expected to retain control of the U.S. Congress and Crisostimo believes that the next president will also be a Democrat.
Aligning the local Democrats with the national party has always been his goal, said Crisostimo, D-Saipan.
In a separate interview, the local party’s new chairman, Manny Sablan, said they have not yet endorsed a candidate for the delegate seat.
Although former Sen. David Cing, D-Tinian, has also expressed interest to run, no letters of intent have been submitted to the party’s central executive committee, Sablan said.
