Ada applauded SARC coordinator Robert L. Coldeen III for the continuing effort to improve student attendance and the teamwork between the committee and PSS, including principals and teachers.
“We are in the business of educating and reaching out,” Ada said. “The purpose [of PSS] is to educate students in our community. That has been our foremost goal. That is our priority.”
He said he will always make sure that there is a teacher in the classroom when students come to school.
Whenever PSS learns that a student has not registered, “we go above and beyond to find them and reach out to their families,” Ada said.
“We have a small island community, so people know who the parents are of the children or who their siblings or cousins are. We will not give up on any of them,” he added.
Ada reiterated that the law requires parents to bring their children to school.
Created by Public Law 16-47, SARC provides intervention for juveniles and their families to address truancy, irregular attendance, insubordination or disorderly behavior in school at the community level before they are referred to the juvenile justice system.
