The orientation, she said, is in line with the new labor law, P.L. 15-108, which requires foreign workers to attend an orientation regarding their rights and obligations while employed in the CNMI.
Two weeks ago, she added, they conducted the first video orientation in English.
“This is basically much better because we want people to know the law right from the beginning before they start working so that we can eliminate a lot of problems in the future,” Kaipat told Variety.
Labor is now producing the Korean, Japanese and Filipino versions of the orientation and will be using the video as soon as the translation of the materials is completed, she said.
“We get very positive feedback because the material is very clear and informative,” Kaipat said.
The mandatory orientation started on Feb. 12 and was conducted by Labor Director Barry Hirshbein.
He said the orientation will help prevent employer-employee conflicts.
The orientation in English is scheduled at 9 a.m. every Tuesday while the Chinese and Korean presentations are scheduled at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
