“[It is] with a heavy heart that I inform you that I must relinquish my position as the Tinian representative on the task force,” he wrote.
“As you know, I am running for Senate. Unfortunately, my bid for the Senate seat is creating unnecessary political fodder, which I do not want to see become a distraction for all the hard work that has gone into keeping our community safe.”
King-Nabors said the work of the task force is “too important and should be above political pettiness.”
He said he believes that his decision to step down would be in the best interest of the people of Tinian.
Although he is stepping down, King-Nabors said he will continue to provide the task force with the necessary support and will assist the new appointee with his/her seamless transition as he/she assumes the new role.

“Your decisive actions and aggressive response from securing our borders, to implementing stringent preventative measures, and building infrastructure to support testing capability in the CNMI has been exemplary,” he wrote in his letter to the governor.
The Republican candidate said he is grateful to be a part of the team that has worked countless hours to ensure that the community is as safe as it can be given the circumstances.
He thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve the people of Tinian on the task force.
Also vying for the Tinian Senate seat is Frederick Dela Cruz of the NMI Democratic Party.
Democrat Jose Pangelinan and Republican Patrick San Nicolas are running for the lone Tinian House seat.
The last day to register to vote for the upcoming Nov. 3 midterm elections is this Friday, Sept. 4.
The deadline for applications to vote through an absentee ballot is Oct. 9.
Early voting for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota will be held on Oct. 27.
