The club inducted 11 new members on Saturday evening in the Hibiscus Hall of Fiesta Resort & Spa.
Lizama said the club was established shortly before Typhoons Mangkhut and Yutu hit the islands in September and October 2018.
After Mangkhut slammed into Rota, “we immediately deployed our members to Rota to distribute food to families in need,” she said.
Six weeks later, when Yutu crashed into Saipan and Tinian, the club also extended help by distributing food and other needs to people.
“Our goal is to make a difference in our community,” Lizama said. “This will not be possible without the commitment and dedication of the members. We will continue our journey of service, especially to those less fortunate.”
In the same event the club also inducted its new set of officers.
Lions Club International Foundation coordinator Annamae Adaza, in her remarks, reminded her fellow Lions to “be careful with [giving] criticism and liberal in [giving] praise.”
She said the “image” they portray in the community will reflect on the club as a whole.
She also encouraged the officers to hone their members’ potential to be leaders.
“Sometimes we focus too much [on] recruiting new members and we forget to think about our current members. We have invited them to our clubs, but we don’t give them roles and we don’t involve them,” Adaza said.
“Let them feel that they are important. More members means more services. We need leaders who have the passion to serve and to lead the club to the next level. Every one of us has the potential to be a leader,” she added.
