Citing these findings, Aldan said Covid-19 can spread through speaking, coughing or sneezing even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms.
“I am strongly urging all members of our community to wear cloth face coverings especially in areas of significant community-based transmission like stores, banks and gas stations,” he said.
Aldan said cloth face coverings include scarves, bandanas, and others made at home from common materials.
He said CDC does not recommend wearing surgical masks or N-95 respirators, adding that these are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders.
“Covering your face helps the unknowing transmission of Covid-19,” he added, “but is not a substitute for adhering to strict social distancing guidelines, washing our hands, and only leaving our homes when necessary.”
