DCRM to conduct free upcycling workshop today, June 13

TODAY, Tuesday, June 13, the Division of Coastal Resources Management is hosting a free workshop on upcycling materials from home and workplace.

“By upcycling, you can give new life to old products and prevent it from entering our oceans and landfills early on,” said DCRM Communications Coordinator Colleen Flores. “Upcycling benefits also include minimal use of our natural resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions from major factories, help save money, and also promote creativity and craftsmanship.”

The workshop takes place at Marianas Creations on Micro Beach Road in Garapan from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Flores said the workshop can accommodate between 20 and 30 participants, and that as of press time on the 12th, space was still available.

The workshop will also feature a presentation from Marianas Islands Nature Alliance regarding plastic pollution in the CNMI, as well as the benefits of upcycling, Flores said.

Participants are asked to bring an old T-shirt they no longer need, because the workshop involves learning how to transform the article of clothing into a reusable shopping bag or a hanging plant pot holder.

DCRM can be reached for questions or to register at (670) 664-8300.
