MOUNT Carmel School held its graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 3, at Mount Carmel Cathedral where 36 high school seniors transitioned to “AlumKnight” status.
Ten of the graduates were the recipients of the “Loyalty Award” for 12 years of attendance at MCS.
YuriHana Sasamoto, the valedictorian, congratulated her fellow graduates for their hard work, and highlighted the effect they’ve had on each other as classmates.
“We were all…people at rest, Sasamoto said, “[now] we are external forces acting on each other. We are now people rapidly in motion.”
The class had two salutatorians: Kyla Cabrera and Brent Matthew Ortizo.
In her address, Cabrera reminded her classmates to stay aware of the present.
“Taking the time to breathe and feel is equally as important as getting the job done,” Cabrera said. “Class of 2023, we got the job done, this is our moment, let’s feel it.”
Ortizo, for his part, expressed amazement at how quickly time had passed.
“Where did all the time go?” Ortizo asked as he reminisced about the changes he experienced from logging into an online class to completing his senior year on campus.
“Blink and you’ll miss it,” he said.
