COTA to open on Sundays and holidays effective Jan. 3

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios noted that the increased services will greatly assist many residents as they get around island.

“Public transportation is a critical need for our community, and we are making steady progress in expanding service on Saipan and eventually on Tinian and Rota. 2020 is shaping up to a better year, and we are looking forward to continue serving our community’s transportation needs,” said. Governor Torres.

“Increasing transportation services is important to our economy and for local employment. We will continue the work of expanding public transportation to reach our residents in outlying areas,” said Lt. Governor Palacios.

Special Assistant for Public Transportation Alfreda P. Camacho said there has been an increased demand for services over the last month.

“According to our internal data collected from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2019, a total of 7,668 trips have been recorded for this year. Expanding our services to accommodate Sundays and CNMI legal holidays validates the need for public transportation in our community,” said Camacho.

“On behalf of everyone at the Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority, I would like to express our warmest holiday greetings to all our clients and the whole community for placing their trust in us at getting you to your places of employment, doctor’s appointments, restaurants, etc. We will continue to do our very best to serve each and every single person who call these islands their home.”

Reservations and hours of operations for Sundays and holidays will be from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. To make reservations, call COTA’s One-Call/One-Click Transportation Information Resource Center at 664-2690 at least two business days before the desired ride.
