PAYDAY Hao bagged their first win in the 2023 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association Open League by defeating the Seaweed Vibes, 18-15, Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.
Payday Hao scored five runs in the opening inning. Dave Jones led the assault with a three-run homer while teammate Jojo Attao hit a solo homer.
The Seaweed Vibes initially answered with only one run, but they managed to slice the deficit in the second inning with five more runs. Payday Hao, for their part, notched two runs to remain ahead, 7-6.
Payday Hao then widened the lead with four runs in the top of the fourth, but the Seaweed Vibes answered with one run in the bottom of the third and then a grand slam by Joe Lizama in the fourth to tie the game, 11-11.
The battle for the lead continued in the next two innings. Payday Hao tried to stay afloat with three runs in the sixth inning, but the Seaweed Vibes mirrored their opponents’ output to again even the score, 14-14.
In the seventh and final inning, Payday Hao’s Tindin Leon Guerrero scored his team’s only grand slam of the day to take over the driver’s seat. The Seaweed Vibes tried to stay alive but made one homerun only, and had to settle for defeat, 15-18.
Joining the winner’s circle were Ready Mix which defeated Mamaaw, 13-9; and Kebruka, which bested Tuturamz, 10-7.
