PACIFIC Postal Plus, a mail service shop in Garapan, was burglarized over the weekend, the Department of Public Safety said.
DPS received a report regarding the incident on Sunday, Oct. 15 at about 3:48 p.m.
Responding police officers learned that the owner arrived at the establishment around 2:30 p.m. and discovered the back door broken and opened, DPS Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop said.
“Mail packages were also scattered inside the establishment. Officers observed a cash register that was opened and on the floor. The owner claimed the register contained $390 in cash, which was stolen,” Manacop added.
Police officers later came across a group of people standing by a pickup truck just behind Club 88 in Garapan.
“One of the officers observed a male being suspicious and trying to hide what appeared to be a mail package inside the pickup truck,” Manacop said.
“Further investigation conducted confirmed that the package that was being hidden from the police officers was stolen from Pacific Postal Plus,” he said, adding that the man was “detained for investigative purposes.”
The case remains under investigation and DPS is seeking the community’s help to solve this case, said Manacop, the department’s acting public information officer while Police Sgt. Fred Sato is on leave.
