Defendants Jimmy Serandio and John Roman Lisua are escorted out of the court room by Corrections officers after a bail hearing on Monday.
JIMMY D. Serandio, who is on probation for a domestic violence case, has been arrested again by the police for assaulting the same victim, his wife.
Serandio, 44, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, assault and battery, disturbing the peace, and interfering with a domestic violence report.
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $10,000 cash bail on the defendant and remanded him to the custody of the Department of Corrections. Serandio was also ordered to return to court on July 10, for a preliminary hearing and on July 24, for an arraignment.
Serandio was represented by Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig while Assistant Attorney General Frances Demapan appeared for the government.
Demapan asked the court to maintain the bail at $10,000, noting that the defendant is still under probation for a previous domestic violence incident with the same victim.
The victim told police that on June 28, after spending time at a beach with her children, Serandio accused her of seeing someone else.
She said her husband grabbed a knife and threatened to kill her. She told him that she was not seeing anyone.
She said Serandio then grabbed her right hand and pulled her into the bedroom where he slapped her face with his right hand.
She said he also grabbed her hair with both of his hands, pulled her backwards and threw her on the ground.
While on the ground, Serandio kicked her on the back and slapped her head, the victim said.
The wife told police that Serandio then used both of his hands and started to strangle her in front of their children.
She said she started to kick Serandio because she could barely breathe.
When she finally got him off her, she tried to call 911 with her cellphone, but Serandio took it away, she said.
She quoted Serandio as telling her, “If you ever try to call the police, I’ll break your phone.”
