RESIDENTS in need of a new furry friend can visit The Shack on Wednesday, May 10, for Nellie Peach’s adoption bash from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to Boonie Babies co-founder and president Grace Keilbach.
She said puppies under their organization’s care are looking for new homes, as are the animals under the care of the Saipan Mayor’s Office.
Puppies adopted under the Boonie Babies programs will be the “first in line” to receive spay or neutering surgery as available, Keilbach said.
Aside from puppies that are up for adoption, the organization will also have peach pumpkin dog biscuits for sale for $10 to support spay and neutering surgeries on island.
The event to be held on Wednesday is also a birthday celebration for Nellie Peach, one of the dogs owned by Keilbach.
She said her pet’s name is both a reference to one of her favorite musicals, “South Pacific,” and to what Nellie Peach was like as a puppy.
“When we first rescued Nellie, she had no hair so it started growing in as little peach fuzz. We believe the name really suits her,” Keilbach said.
She hopes the community will support the event, even if they don’t intend to adopt.
“We encourage everyone to attend this event because we are so excited to share our passion and mission with the community, and love meeting people also wanting to see a change in the stray animal population on Saipan,” she said.
