THE jury selection for the trial of Bonifacio “Boni” Sagana will begin today, Thursday, July 6, at the District Court for the NMI.
The court will select a jury comprised of 12 members and two alternates.
After the selection of the jury, the trial will resume on July 17, at 1:30 p.m.
The jury trial was initially set for June 27, but at the request of Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona, it was rescheduled.
Sagana is represented by attorney Richard Miller with David Banes as co-counsel. Assistant U.S. attorney Albert Flores Jr. will be the lead prosecutor.
The prosecution must prove, among other things, that the production of a CNMI driver’s license affected or could have affected interstate or foreign commerce.
The prosecution is anticipating a four-day case in chief while the defense anticipates a two-day case in chief.
Sagana has pled not guilty to the charge of conspiracy to unlawfully produce an identification document.
He is accused of involvement in a scheme to produce counterfeit CNMI driver’s licenses.
