HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — One of three people implicated in the burglary of a day care center was charged Saturday in the Superior Court of Guam.
According to a magistrate’s complaint filed against Denzel Whitaker, 30, the incident was reported Wednesday and occurred sometime between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Little Learners Early Childhood Academy in Mangilao.
Staff told officers with the Guam Police Department that a bathroom window was discovered shattered, and the rear door was unlocked. Day care employees surmised that the culprits entered through the window and made their exit through the door.
According to police, six ring cameras, two Apple MacBooks and two Android tablets were reported stolen. The total value of the items was estimated at $4,674.
Following the burglary, photos and videos of the suspects posted online resulted in the identification of the three suspects. In addition to Whitaker, Henry Jesse Meno and Josephine Cruz Rojas were identified.
All three suspects were reported to reside at the Sharma Complex apartments in Mangilao, where police allegedly found them hiding in a bedroom of one of the units.
Police said Meno and Rojas admitted to their involvement in the burglary and confirmed Whitaker’s involvement.
The complaint states that Whitaker already had two active cases pending adjudication related to two counts of damaging, stealing or receiving stolen government generators, telephones or emergency utility equipment and another case involving the theft of a motor vehicle.
For the new allegations, Whitaker was charged with complicity to commit burglary, and complicity to commit theft, both with the special allegation of felony on felony release.
The Guam Judicial Center is seen Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, in Hagåtña.
