Middle school division participants take off during the Ayuyu Invitational — the fourth and final week of the NMA-PSS All School Cross Country Series SY23-24 on Saturday at Chacha Oceanview Middle School.

AGAPE Christian School took the spotlight during the Ayuyu Invitational, the fourth and final week of the PSS-NMA All School Cross Country SY23-24, at Chacha Oceanview Middle School on Saturday.

ACS led the three-mile course in the boys and girls high school divisions.

Among the boys, ACS’ Yile (Jireh) Wang was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 20.41.91 followed by schoolmate Ruizhe (Samuel) Zhu with a finish time of 20.56.91. For his part, Mount Carmel School’s Victor Santos clinched third place with a time of 21.00.63. 

In the team standings, ACS led the competition with a score of 15 points. Second was Marianas High School with 34 points, and Mount Carmel School came in third  with 54 points.

In cross country, the team with the lowest total score tops the meet.

Girls division

In the girls division, SIS’ Kaithlyn Chavez claimed first once again, clocking 24:16.44 while Kagman High School’s Pia Ngewakl settled for second place with a time of 27:16.46. ACS’ Barbara Wang came in third at 28:20.39.

In the team standings, ACS was numero uno with 24 points while KHS came in second with 47 points.

The high school division course took runners around Chacha Oceanview Middle School and Kagman Elementary School, and then to the Forbidden Island Lookout before returning to KagES.

Middle schools

ACS also came out on top in the boys middle school division with a total of 36 points followed by Chacha with 59; Saipan International School, 59; Hopwood Middle School, 81; Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, 86, and Rota, 96. 

The top three individual runners were SIS’ Quido Jambor with a time of 12.10.29 followed by ACS’ Ziheng (Raffy) Cai with a finish time of 12.14.82, and schoolmate Shenshi (Daniel)Yang with a time of 12.40.22. 

SIS still reigns in the middle school and elementary school divisions.

In the girls middle school division, SIS led the team standings with a total of 12 points followed by ACS with 56, and Saipan Community School with 58. 

The top three individual finishers were from SIS. Adalee Taflinger finished first with a time of 13.46.27 followed by Eliza Culp at 15.38.17, and Leilani Ruszala at 15.59.76. 

SIS also remains on top of the boys elementary school division with a total of 23 points.

 Brilliant Star School came in second with 52; Grace Christian Academy had 73 points; MCS, 75; Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, 78; San Vicente Elementary School, 106; SCS, 115; Oleai Elementary School, 118; and ACS, 141.

SIS likewise dominated the girls elementary school division with a total of 13 team points.

BSS took second place with 35; GCA had 77; OES, 83; GES, 89; MCS, 108; and SVS, 131. 

The All School Cross Country Championship will be held this Saturday, Oct. 14, starting at 6:30 a.m. at the Saipan Country Club of Saipan Vegas.
