Court dismisses case against Villanueva without prejudice

JUANITA P. Villanueva has been released from the Department of Corrections after the Superior Court dismissed her case without prejudice.

Without prejudice means the case can be refiled.

Earlier this month, police arrested Villanueva, 22, for her involvement in a robbery at San Antonio beach on Oct. 15, 2023.

She was arrested on Oct. 19, and charged with robbery, principals and robbery, conspiracy and robbery, and theft. Her bail was set at $50,000.

In a motion to dismiss filed on Monday, Oct. 30, Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds said the Commonwealth had “received information in relation to the [complaint] that requires additional investigation…. For good cause, the Commonwealth believes it is in the interest of justice to dismiss this case without prejudice.”

Attorney Janet King, who represented Villanueva, said her client is happy to be released from Corrections.

“My client is pleased with the Commonwealth’s decision to dismiss the case against her, and we encourage a proper investigation of the facts,” King said.

According to the police complaint and affidavit of probable cause in support of the issuance of an arrest warrant against her, Villanueva was soliciting money for sex during the alleged robbery.
