“WE are blessed to be part of the American family,” said Commonwealth Ports Authority board member Dolores P. Kiyoshi of Tinian as she greeted CNMI residents “Happy Citizenship Day” on Friday.

Kiyoshi, who served the nation and the Commonwealth for 30 years in the U.S. Army’s medical corps, said Nov. 3  “is a special day for all U.S. citizens and veterans in the CNMI.”

“I am a proud U.S. citizen and veteran in the CNMI, and I am thankful and so proud of all of our brothers and sisters in arms for their sacrifices and continued service to our nation,” said Kiyoshi, a retired sergeant major.

She said Citizenship Day “highlights the CNMI’s political union with the United States and the islands’ strengthened relationship with federal and military partners.”

It was on Nov. 3, 1986 in Washington, D.C. when President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation to “welcome the [CNMI] into the American family and congratulate our new fellow citizens.”
