GPD: Sedan encroached into opposite lane before fatal collision with dump truck in Asan

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The Guam Police Department revealed a fatal traffic crash occurred after two vehicles driving in opposite directions collided.

On Monday morning, GPD spokesperson Officer Berlyn Savella issued a news release about the deadly traffic crash reported Sunday afternoon.

According to the release, officers responded to a serious collision on Marine Corps Drive in Asan near Adelup that involved a dump truck and a midsize sedan.

“Upon arrival, two occupants were found unconscious and unresponsive, displaying no signs of life,” the release stated. Authorities said the two occupants and a third person were taken to the Guam Memorial Hospital.

The Guam Fire Department confirmed emergency services were withheld for the two occupants who were unconscious and unresponsive.

GPD’s Highway Patrol Division has since taken over the investigation, and their preliminary findings were revealed in the release.

“The operator of a Kenworth T800 dump truck was motoring southbound on the outer lane of Route 1 by First Church, Asan. The operator of a Subaru sedan while motoring northbound on Route 1 failed to maintain control of the vehicle and encroached into the oncoming lane and collided with the dump truck,” according to the release.

Savella explained further details, such as the identity of the occupants, will be provided as the investigation unfolds.

“This incident serves as a solemn reminder of the critical importance of cautious driving. We urge the community to be mindful of their speed and to adhere to the speed limits of the roadway,” Savella stated.

According to Post files, the two traffic deaths mark the 25th and 26th traffic-related fatalities to occur this year.
