Youth advisory council sworn in

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Five members of the Governor’s Youth Advisory Council were sworn in by Lt. Gov. Joshua Tenorio in a ceremony at the Guam Museum Sept. 28 where they discussed issues concerning the younger generation on Guam.

The council is made up of student leaders from Guam’s high schools, Guam Community College and the University of Guam. The council was established by Executive Order 2020-02.

Previous discussions touched upon academics, including in-person learning versus learning online during the COVID-19 pandemic, the island’s so-called “brain drain,” and on-campus safety.

Council members will work alongside agencies that touch upon these themes, including the Department of Youth Affairs and the Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center.

Tenorio explained the importance of giving young people a voice on the island to address issues that affect them most.

“As we make decisions in the government, our student leaders are the conscience of our collective. All the work and policy we make today will impact them the longest,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to working with each of our members individually and collectively to make the most of the ongoing school year and activate their interests and their intentions,” he said.

The Governor’s Youth Advisory Council members are:
