GCA returns the possession during a girls middle school division game of the NMIVA-PSS Interscholastic Volleyball League SY23-24 at the Marianas High School gym on Tuesday.
GRACE Christian Academy, Hopwood Middle School and Saipan International School are off to a strong start in the girls middle school division of the NMIVA-PSS Interscholastic Volleyball League SY23-24 after beating their respective opponents Tuesday at the Marianas High School gym.
GCA showcased a near-flawless performance as they defeated Dandan Middle School in two quick sets.
Teamwork and communication were the key to GCA’s dominance as Aiyana Fatialofa, Eliane Pagaduan, Sarah Lim, and Llyanna Libut provided great coverage and set ups to end most of their possessions with strong spike finishes.
DMS continued to put up a fight but without proper defense, they lost the first set, 7-21.
GCA continued to play confidently and aggressively in the second set. This time, DMS barely had the chance to retaliate and had to eventually settle for defeat, 3-21.
HOP vs COVMS
HOP fought a tougher battle but still overcame Chacha Ocean View Middle School in two sets.
It was a seesaw battle with a handful of lead exchanges, but HOP built enough momentum to clinch the first set, 21-16.
The second set was more intense as COVMS found their second wind and applied relentless pressure. However, their morale gradually faded away due to miscommunication and errors, handing HOP the opportunity to slip away, 21-18, to win the match.
SIS vs SCS
SIS outhustled Saipan Community School in two sets.
In the first canto, both teams exchanged blows but SIS managed to came out on top, 22-20. SCS could not recover from the initial loss and could only score seven points in the second set before bowing down, 7-21.
In the junior varsity scene, GCA II bested COVMS II, 21-11, 21-7; Tanapag Middle School outlasted Mount Carmel School II, 21-16, 21-17; and Francisco M. Sablan Middle School powered past SIS II, 21-18, 21-11.
