Mayor RB wants to meet with cultural leaders

SAIPAN Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho wants to sit down with cultural and ethnic group leaders in the community and discuss a variety of issues affecting the island, such as food sustainability, village cleanliness and crime prevention.

On Friday, Camacho said he is inviting leaders of cultural clubs or organizations to meet with him at his office so they can find more ways to be “proactive” about some of the problems facing the island.

Camacho said the government “can’t handle” everything on its own, and that the island’s “resources are in the population.”

Last week, the mayor met with religious leaders to discuss crime and the Marpi public cemetery.

Camacho shared his ideas about the potential of municipal programs like adopt-a-place, farm-to-table, and neighborhood watch.

In the upcoming meeting with cultural group leaders, he said he wants to discuss municipal programs and possible collaboration between cultural groups and his office.

The mayor is asking cultural organization leaders to contact him at (670) 234-6208.
