Woman accused of killing 1-year-old son

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Police have arrested a mother on suspicion of murdering her 1-year-old son.

The Guam Police Department stated in a news release they arrested Giltinan Ramangmou, 28, on suspicion of aggravated murder, child abuse and family violence.

The arrest comes after police responded to a report of a “pulseless and breathless 1-year-old male toddler” at a residence in Liguan Terrace, Dededo.

“Upon their arrival, officers noted that the toddler was lifeless and was reported to have fallen off of a bed. A check of the toddler’s injuries indicated that they were inconsistent with a fall,” the release said, adding that detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section launched an investigation.

Ramangmou, the toddler’s mother, reported she was home alone with her son “when she pulled a soiled quilt off of the bed her son was sleeping on, causing him to fall to the floor.”

Ramangmou added she treated the wound with ice but fell asleep and woke up several hours later to find the child not breathing.

Ramangmou’s statements, however, did not appear to corroborate other evidence and information collected by detectives, according to police.

“Ramangmou’s boyfriend was located and interviewed, during which he disclosed witnessing Ramangmou punching their son earlier in the afternoon,” GPD stated.

After officers conducted multiple interviews, collected evidence and the scene was processed, sufficient probable cause was established and Ramangmou was arrested, police said.

Ramangmou has since been processed, booked and confined at the Department of Corrections.

The case was forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General.

Investigation

After the news release was sent by GPD spokesperson Officer Berlyn Savella, she confirmed the investigation is currently classified as an “expired person” case, pending an autopsy.

The release states that Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jeffrey Nine responded to the scene and conducted an assessment. The autopsy has been scheduled for a later time.

Until then, GPD will not be releasing any other information regarding the investigation.

“It is essential to ensure that the investigation’s integrity remains intact. … Discussing the case would need to be deferred until all necessary details are made available without compromising the ongoing investigation,” Savella said.
