ALVANDER DLG Pua was arrested again for domestic violence. Police said he punched and pulled the hair of his girlfriend on Aug. 5. She was the same victim in his previous domestic violence case.
Pua, 30, appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan on Tuesday for a bail hearing and was charged with assault, assault and battery, disturbing the peace, and domestic violence.
Judge Bogdan imposed a $10,000 cash bail and remanded Pua to the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Pua was ordered to return to court on Sept. 13, at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing, and on Sept. 25 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment.
At the hearing, Pua was represented by Assistant Public Defender Emily Thomsen while Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
According to the complaint against Pua, his girlfriend told police that he punched and pulled her hair while she was inside her car and trying to get away from him.
That evening, she said she had just finished grocery shopping with her two toddlers, and they were inside the car that was parked next to their house.
She said Pua ran toward the car, held onto the driver’s door handle and attempted to unlock it.
She said she was scared and locked her doors before driving away while Pua held onto the car door’s handle.
She said she drove for about 15 feet but Pua did not let go.
She said when she unlocked the door, Pua used his left hand to punch the right side of her face three times.
She said she drove off again because she wanted to get away from “chaos.” She said she was also scared of Pua, who was on probation.
The victim told police that on June 6, 2023, she called 911 because Pua threatened to drag her into their room and beat her up for asking him to leave her house.
Last year, Pua was sentenced by the Superior Court to 10 months in prison for assaulting his girlfriend, the same victim.
Pua’s release date was Sept. 17, 2022. He was immediately placed on probation for three years.
In 2018, Pua assaulted his girlfriend who was seven months pregnant at the time.
