Remengesau pardons two inmates

Audy Yona also known as Audi Yona and Kalany Higgins were granted Executive Clemency in their respective convictions.

Yona was pardoned on July 10 while Higgins was pardoned on June 4.

Yona was charged with grand larceny and conspiracy and was convicted of the charges on July 16, 1998.

Yona was also charged with three counts of bribery and three counts of misconduct in public office.

He was convicted on the charges on April 9, 2004.

President Remengesau in giving Yona a full and complete pardon said that Yona was pardoned because he had showed remorse for his actions and had taken steps to get his life back on track.

The President said during his incarceration, Yona became a Christian and showed a renewed sense of responsibility in his work with the Division of Fire and Rescue.

“I trust that you will use this second chance wisely to gain employment that will help support you and your family,”Remengesau said in his order of pardon.

Higgins was charged with grand larceny, driving under the influence, reckless driving and violation of curfew.

He was convicted of the grand larceny charge on March 3, 2000 and October 17, 2002 for the DUI and reckless driving and violation of curfew charges.

Remengesau in pardoning Higgins said that he had made a constructive decision to join the United States Armed Forces.

“I commend you on this choice and I hope you make the best of this endeavor,”the President said in his order of pardon.
