Crisostimo: Democrats should maintain unity

“If [former Sen. David M.] Cing wants to run in the primary against me, I welcome him, but whoever wins the primary will need the losing candidate’s endorsement,” Crisostimo said.

He admits that a primary may be divisive, and this is why he and Cing should help maintain party unity after July 27.

The Democrats will hold a closed primary on that date.

“I wish [him] luck,” Crisostimo said, referring to Cing.

He said he is afraid of losing “good Democrats” after the primary, which will “hurt the party.”

He hopes that local Democrats will take their cue from their national counterparts.

“Sen. Hillary Clinton endorsed Sen. Barack Obama after the primaries, and she urged her followers to also support him,” Crisostimo said.

The other candidates for congressional delegate are Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio, outgoing Election Commission Executive Director Gregorio C. Sablan, former Judge Juan T. Lizama and Department of Public Lands official John DLR. Gonzales.

Tenorio is the Republican nominee while the rest are running as Independent candidates.
