If endorsed, the small island nation of approximately 15,000 population will join two other French Pacific overseas countries, French Polynesia and New Caledonia as associate members of the 16 member group.
Addressing senior regional government officials, the acting secretary general of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Feleti Teo said, “A foundation has been built for further work to enhance regional co-operation with Wallis and Futuna on the many challenges it shares with other small Forum members.”
Last month, two officials from the Forum Secretariat visited Wallis and Futuna to explore ways for future regional engagement with the island nation.
