The CNMI Office of the Public Auditor is hosting the July 14-18 conference at the Saipan World Resort.
Public Auditor Michael S. Sablan told department and activity heads that several courses will be offered during the five-day conference.
“We are expecting over 200 off-island participants but would like to give priority to participants from the CNMI,” Sablan said in his memo.
Some topics to be discussed include: Emerging Issues in Government Auditing and Accounting; Basic Cash Controls; Fraud 101: Increasing Your Fraud Awareness; Topics in Investment Management; and Ethical Decision-Making for Auditors and Finance Officers.
According to the association’s Web site, six prominent financial experts in the region are going to lecture and deliver presentations to conference participants:
• Daniel S. Fitzgerald, managing partner of the Deloitte Guam and Micronesia practice, a member of the board of the Deloitte Southeast Asia practice and of the advisory board of the Salvation Army.
• Alan Z. Goodman, president of Goodman Professional Development Inc., based in Queens, New York, and former director of the New York State Banking Department, Holocaust Claims Processing Office, which helps Holocaust Survivors in recovering Swiss bank accounts and insurance claims. He was with New York City Police Department for 27 years.
• Michael S. Johnson, managing partner of Deloitte & Touche LLC, CNMI and Palau.
• Pat Keehley, Ph.D., who has more than 25 years of program evaluation, training and consulting experience working with governments throughout the U.S. and the other counries.
• Stephen Morgan, city auditor of Austin, Texas, who is responsible for directing performance audits, fraud investigations, and consulting engagements.
• Kevin O’Keefe, financial advisor for Edward Jones Investments, based in Kapolei, Hawaii.
• Jeanne H. Yamamura, CPA, MIM, PhD, licensed as a CPA in California and Nevada, and an associate professor at the University of Nevada Reno.
