President Remengesau told reporters he has reviewed applications sent to him and will come with a “possible nominee this week.”He said that there were about seven applicants for the position.The president said that the applicants included hopefuls outside Palau.The position was left vacant since March after former Special Prosecutor Everett Walton resigned.The president he prefers a foreigner to assume the post.Earlier it was reported that Remengesau and Chief of Staff Billy Kuartei approached Pacific Savings Bank (PSB) Investigator Lewis Harley to serve as Special Prosecutor.Remengesau however said that he intends to renew Harley’s contract which is expected to expire on August 14.Harley reportedly advised Kuartei by letter that that position will require separate budgets and clear delineation between the functions of Special Prosecutor and his primary focus as independent Counsel for the Pacific Savings Bank investigation.
