A pinch of the Salty Boys

The first of the Salty Boys games, a masters’ game, against Ngchsar (Oldiais) was a battle of will.  Each member of the teams displayed their best effort, but the Older Salty willed a win – they heaved, dived, and even crawled.  Their extra effort paid off and they defeated Ngchesar in a very close game, 13 –12.The Salty Boys open divisions team showed even greater effort.  Israel Abraham sent a couple of balls out of the park.  Dallas Oketol nearly pitched a “no hitter.”  Isimang Semdiu, the Salty Boys’ center fielder, mesmerized all present as he made spectacular defensive plays and nearly perfect base running.  Further, each of the Salty Boys had made contribution to the team; and nearly all of them landed on the 2nd base at least one time during the duration of the game.Oldiais, on the other hand, though they played with determination, committed numerous unforced errors, which fueled the Salty Boys even further.  In the end, the game was called off short of the seventh inning – by way of a ten-run ruling.  The Salty Boys had outrun Oldiais with a score of 12 to 1.In other games, the Kayangel Angels – supposedly the underdogs of the league – gave the Ngaraard teams a “run for their money.”  The K-Angels (open) easily defeated the N-5 Reds 18-6; and the K-Angels (masters), though not successful in their bid, did manage to go the full length of the game.  The Ngaraard Redmen (21) had to earn its win from the K-Angels (13).
